Performance Review

With 2x1000W brushless motors powering its two wheels… and backed by a gigantic 1200Wh power source, the Amyet S8 guarantees an exhilarating ride. Three different riding modes are available on the e-bike: conventional cycling, 5-level pedal assist, and throttle. The pedal-assist system uses a cadence sensor to detect your pedaling inputs.

Acceleration

The S8 is a dual motor e-bike, with 2x1000W motors powering its wheels. Thanks to this incredible powertrain, the S8 impressed me with its acceleration during testing, reaching 20 mph in just 13 seconds. This degree of performance is rather remarkable given the bike’s 95-pound weight. This accelerating time was recorded on a reasonably smooth, level road with a moderate wind speed.

Top Speed

Let me just say it loud: riding the Amyet S8 was sheer enjoyment. On level urban roads, the bike reached an exhilarating top speed of 33.4 mph, exceeding the Class 3 limit of 28 mph. Given the bike’s weight and price, this level of speed is quite astounding. However, it should be noted that riding at this pace on public highways is unlawful in all states. The highest speed allowed by law is 28 mph, which applies in various states.

Suspension

The suspension system on the Amyet S8 is also notable. The bike comes with front and rear hydraulic suspension. The rear suspension comprises dual shocks to ensure a great deal of ride comfort. The front shock works great as well. It’s lockable so that you can have a stiff ride on flat roads and a cushioned ride on beaten paths. In addition to that, you also have a really comfortable saddle and 4-inch fat tires. All in all, the S8 efficiently absorbs bumps… and provides an excellently cushioned ride.

Hill Climb

During my testing, the Amyet S8 performed well on uphill surfaces. It made every climb a sheer breeze and I had no trouble at all, not even on really steep inclines. No matter if I use the throttle or the pedal assist, the bike performed just as well. The S8 has excellent and nearly unrivaled hill climbing capabilities when compared to other bikes in its class. It did better than the Engwe M20… and I think it’s perfectly suitable for riders who often encounter slopes in their journey.

Ride Quality

The Amyet S8 offers an incredibly comfortable ride. It offers stability on a variety of surfaces… and the bike’s ergonomic frame design and riding position also add to its overall comfort. But most importantly, its dual suspension system – that’s one of the best I have tested recently, its large cushioned saddle, and its 4-inch fat tires… all of these contribute to a pleasant ride.

The S8 also has good handling and steering qualities. It is very easy to maneuver and turn. It does use a cadence sensor that may not react as quickly as the more costly torque sensors seen in higher-end versions… but given the bike’s affordable pricing, you can’t really complain. For most riders, the little delay in power engagement will not even be noticeable.

Braking

The Amyet S8 features hydraulic disc brakes. Although I didn’t test the brakes’ distance, the bike’s braking felt really good during the test ride. The brakes have sufficient stopping force… and are just what was needed for a bike with such weight, speed, and off-road capabilities. The brakes performed well on both road and off-road surfaces.

Transmission

The S8 comes with a seven-speed Shimano transmission. While gear changes were completely seamless, I did experience some ghost pedaling at faster speeds. It’s a common problem with all high-speed bikes that use 7-speed transmission.. and becomes more apparent as the bike reaches speeds beyond 25 mph. I wish the brand had offered an 8 or 9-speed gearbox. Still, you can use throttle at high speeds to get rid of this issue.

Range

If you ask me, what’s the one thing I like the most about the S8, it would be the range offered by this bike. I mean it’s hard to find a similar bike that includes a 48V 25Ah (1200Wh) lithium-ion battery. During my test, I could travel 35.2 miles on throttle and PAS 5, navigating both hilly and flat terrain. This range is impressive given the bike’s 2000W power output and heavy weight. Also, you should be able to cover more ground on flat terrain and with lower assist settings.

Amyet S8 vs Cycrown CycRun

The Amyet S8 has dual 1000W motors with a combined 2000W output, while the Cycrown CycRun just has a 750W motor… so performance wise, it doesn’t even come close. The S8 edges ahead with its stellar top speed, and its remarkable battery capacity as well. Speaking of which, the CycRun has just a 374Wh battery, compared to the 1200Wh battery of the S8. It is, however, lighter and comes in at a much lower price of $499.

The Amyet S8 boasts a more powerful 2000W powertrain compared to the Riding Times Z8’s 750W motor, offering enhanced acceleration and performance potential. With a top speed of 33.4 mph, the S8 outpaces the Z8’s 28.3 mph. It also features a larger 1200Wh battery, providing a longer range of 35.2 miles versus the Z8’s 25.7 miles on a single charge.
