Top Speed

The Afreda S6 operates as a Class 2 electric e-trike, achieving a maximum speed of 19mph on the third riding assist setting when on flat terrain. While this speed is decent, considering the price, I wish for a slightly higher speed, perhaps reaching at least 20mph. It’s important to note that this e-trike doesn’t feature pedal assistance, meaning you rely solely on the thumb throttle for acceleration.

Acceleration

The Afreda S6 e-trike accelerates smoothly on both flat and uneven roads. I was able to reach a speed of 19 mph in about 21 seconds on the third riding assist level.

Hill Climb

The Afreda S6 really excels on inclines. I was able to climb hills with its powerful motor despite its relatively heavier weight than two-wheelers.

Range

With its dual 48V 15.6 Ah batteries, the Afreda S6 offers a commendable range of up to 24 miles. This range is in line with expectations for a heavy e-trike. However, it’s crucial to note that the actual range you experience can vary based on factors such as your weight, and the terrain you’re riding on. For example, riding on hilly terrain will reduce the range.

The S6 has two batteries, but you can only use one at a time. You have to manually switch to the second battery when the first battery is depleted, while it doesn’t affect the overall range capability, it’s important to take note of it when riding.

Ride Quality

The Afreda S6 offers a comfortable riding experience. This compact and stable e-trike stands out with its unique and responsive steering system. It excels in handling various terrains, thanks to the dual front suspension capable of up to 11 inches of travel. This key feature sets it apart from other three-wheelers.

The hydraulic brakes are not only reliable but also provide excellent stopping power with the 160mm disc rotors on all three wheels. This ensured a secure and confident braking experience, adding to the overall safety of the ride especially when having a passenger.

The S6 has a good weight distribution, ensuring stability even when carrying heavy loads or an additional passenger. This feature gives a smooth and secure riding experience. It does not have a rear rack, but it can carry up to 440 lbs of load capacity.

Tiny jpg

Braking

The Afreda S6 is equipped with reliable hydraulic disc brakes featuring 160mm rotors on all three wheels. Despite its small 14″ wheels, the brakes deliver outstanding stopping power regardless of weather conditions.

The S6 boasts power and motor cut-off levers. These levers automatically deactivate the motor upon braking, effectively reducing the risk of skidding.

Tiny jpg

Suspension

The Afreda S6 e-trike has a top-of-the-line dual front suspension that can travel up to 11 inches in self-balance mode. This provides excellent bump absorption on different terrain types, including flat pavement roads, light off-road trails, and city roads.

While the S6 does not have a rear suspension, the dual front suspension system and the shock absorption seat make off-road riding comfortable and manageable.
