Jasion is a fairly recent brand “dedicated to transforming the way individuals experience and embrace eco-friendly commuting”. The brand is known for its highly competitive pricing – every ebike from the brand offers an insane value for money and probably the most number of features you can get in the price tag. We reviewed the brand’s hot selling ebike EB7 not long ago… and now we are here with another of their great products – the X-Hunter.

Since folding fat is arguably the most competitive class of e-bikes, Jasion has gone all out with their X-Hunter. For a very reasonable price, this ebike packs some of the most insane features you can get in the segment (we’re talking about an absurdly powerful motor, adjustable dual suspension, a color LCD dashboard, and more). Fortunately, the brand hasn’t cut any corners to make all these accessible to customers for under $1000. Let’s dig deep into what this bike offers.

Performance Review

The Jasion X-Hunter electric bike comes with a 48V 750W brushless rear hub motor (with a peak output of 1400W). The bike can be used in 3 modes: cycling mode, pedal-assist mode, and throttle mode. Within the assists mode, you can adjust the motor assistance in five levels to enjoy different speeds according to your ride condition. The bike uses a cadence sensor to detect your pedal inputs… and a 48V 13A controller to manage the power flow.

Performance Summary

Acceleration

The Jasion X-Hunter comes fitted with a 750 watt motor propeling its rear wheel. The motor has a stellar peak output of 1400W, which means you can expect powerful bursts of power when starting from rest… or whenever you want to accelerate during your ride. While I was testing this bike, I was pleasantly surprised by the level of boost it gave me in both the pedal-assist and throttle mode. The performance was even better than my recent favorite Engwe M20.

Hill Climb

The X-Hunter features a 1400W peak motor (750W nominal) with a torque output of 90Nm. Now, this torque output is what makes all the difference. As you’d recall from my previous articles, that it’s actually the torque output that matters when it comes to hill climbing… So yeah, the X-Hunter performed really, really well on inclines, just as expected. The road that I tested it on had a slope around 20 degrees, and it effortlessly went up there. In fact, after the Bullet GT, this is the second fat tire ebike that I like for hill-climbing.

Braking

The X-Hunter comes with a sensitive disc brake system. Equipped with both front and rear 160mm disc rotors, the brakes deliver substantial braking force efficiently over short distances, regardless of weather conditions, ensuring reliable performance in both wet and dry environments. Considering the bike’s top speed, I would have preferred hydraulic brakes though.

Top Speed

The Jasion X-Hunter will be shipping as a Class 3 electric bike, limited to a max speed of 28mph. However, in unlocked state, it can hit up to 31mph on flat roads. This peak speed is incredible, considering the price tag of the bike. However, keep in mind that the battery will drop pretty quickly at such speeds.

Ride Quality

Jasion has tried to make the X-Hunter as comfortable as you can expect a budget e-bike to be (because, let’s face it, it’s a budget ebike due to its sub-$1k tag). The bike has an ergonomic frame geometry to ensure a comfortable riding posture. In addition to that, it has 4″ fat tires and dual suspension system to efficiently absorb shocks from rough terrain. The ride is undoubtedly, one of the most plush, in its class.

As far as handling and steering capabilities are concerned, the X-Hunter performs remarkably well in both. Not the most agile bike, but remarkably agile for an ebike with 4” tires. Moving on, the saddle is adjustable in height that increases convenience for riders. Lastly, the cadence sensor’s responsiveness might be inferior to that of torque sensor, the power delivery is still fairly decent. Another thing I really like about the bike is how plush its saddle is. The handlebar grips also have an ergonomic design for enhanced comfort.

Range

The Jasion X-Hunter is fitted with a Lithium-ion battery rated at 48V 13Ah (624Wh). While testing, I covered 20.4 miles in total using both throttle and pedal-assist modes (using each mode half of the time). I rode the bike on flat urban roads and one inclined road for testing hill climbing ability. The range is not so good… but when you factor in the bike’s performance (and its affordable price tag), this range is fairly reasonable. However, if you’re seeking an electric bike with an exceptionally long range, you can consider the Aniioki A8 Pro Max, which features a massive 48V 60Ah (2,880Wh) battery.

Transmission

The X-Hunter comes equipped with a 7-speed Shimano gear system, which provides versatility for various riding conditions. However, when riding at high speeds, it is prone to ghost pedaling, where the pedals continue to rotate despite not applying pressure. This is why, for high-speed bikes like this, I always prefer 8-speed transmission.

Suspension

The Jasion X-Hunter comes with a dual suspension system providing it with a remarkable capability to tackle all kinds of rough  terrains. The front suspension fork is both lockable and adjustable, giving riders the flexibility to adjust to different terrains or accommodate personal preferences. The rear suspension, as you might expect from a budget e-bike, is more for looks than for actual damping… but I guess, it’s still better than having a stiff rear end. The good thing is, its soft saddle and fat tires greatly contribute to smoothing out rough patches, enhancing the overall riding comfort.

Jasion X-Hunter Alternatives & Competitors

If you’re looking into other possibilities, here are two main alternatives within the same price range as the Jasion X-Hunter folding fat tire electric bike that you can consider.

Jasion X-Hunter vs Heybike Mars

The X-Hunter has more weight compared to the Heybike Mars, despite having the same load capacity. The motor output of the X-Hunter is, however, more than the Mars. Consequently, it has a higher top speed. The Heybike Mars, on the other hand, gives more range due its smaller motor size that drains less battery. The Mars also has a much lower price tag than the X-Hunter… and is one of the highest rated ebikes on Amazon. The X-Hunter has another advantage of dual suspension… but if you can forego that and the thrill of speed riding, the Heybike Mars is clearly the superior choice.

Jasion X-Hunter vs Wooken Fat Tire

The Wooken is positioned at a lower price point than the X-Hunter. The X-Hunter has a smaller battery, resulting in a slightly shorter range, but houses the same 750W motor. The top speed and performance dynamics of both the bikes is almost the same. The Wooken has a lower net weight… but the X-Hunter shines when it comes to suspension (since it has dual suspension).

You can compare the major specs of these three folding fat tire electric bikes below to gain a better understanding of what they offer.
