Performance Review

A potent 750W BAFANG motor powers the Fleesky X5e electric bike. You can use the bike in pure throttle, pedal assist or manual mode. The comfort and efficiency of riding are improved by five pedal assist settings… which let you fine tune your power. Let us now have a detailed look at the bike’s performance.

Performance Summary

Braking Distance (20 to 0 mph)

Acceleration

On level terrain, the Freesky Himalaya X5e electric bike demonstrated remarkable acceleration – thanks to its peak power output of 1130W and a torque output of 85Nm. In my test drive, I was able to reach 20 mph on a flat road in 13–14 seconds under typical wind conditions.

Top Speed

The Freesky e-bike is a class 3 ebike and has a top speed of 28 mph. Due to some time constraint on my part, I didn’t unlock this bike to check its maximum speed. I will try to do this at some later point in time, and will update this review. One great thing about the Freesky ebike is that it also had a cruise control feature for a convenient ride.

Hill Climb

When I tested the Freesky Himalaya X5e, I found that it performed admirably on inclinations. With its high-performance motor that has 85Nm of torque, I was able to easily navigate steep slopes upto 15 degrees of elevation. But the Freesky’s performance in hill climbing was noticeably inferior to that of the RAEV Bullet GT (it remains the best so far).

Braking

The Freesky is equipped with 160mm hydraulic disc brakes on both front and rear. These brakes provide a smooth and reliable stopping power on flat, uphill, and downhill surfaces. Having hydraulic discs in this budget is a fair deal… so Freesky did a great job here.

Ride Quality

With careful design elements, the Freesky Himalaya X5e prioritizes rider comfort. Its fat tires and front suspension fork, which are excellent at absorbing shocks from bumps and uneven terrain, combined with its frame geometry and riding position… all of these provide a great experience overall. In addition, the Freesky showed surprisingly excellent steering and handling. The motor guaranteed a smooth ride, and the power delivery was remarkably efficient (for a cadence sensor).

The best thing about the bike, however, has to be the massive 26×4.0 fat tires that give it excellent ground grip, promoting ride control. Moreover, the suspension fork also prevents you from experiencing discomfort when driving on uneven terrain by absorbing jerks and ensuring a smooth ride.

Transmission

The Freesky has a seven-speed Shimano transmission that helps riders to navigate a variety of terrains. There was some ghost pedaling when traveling at speeds near 28 mph, but otherwise, the gear changes were seamless. As for ghost pedaling, this is present in almost all 7-speed bikes so that’s not an uncommon thing.

Range

A massive 48V 15Ah Samsung cell battery works the motor of the Freesky Himalaya X5e, giving it a significant amount of power. As far as range is concerned, I was able to travel around 23 miles during testing by using both throttle and pedal assistance. Please keep in mind that the range will vary depending on your specific ride conditions, your weight, and your PAS mode. (As for me, I used the highest level of pedal assistance for most of the time). Considering that, the bike has a respectable range for the price.

Suspension

For riding on uneven roads and bumpy trails, Freesky has equipped the X5e with a front suspension fork, which is adjustable to suit various riding conditions or styles. Furthermore, as mentioned before, the Freesky’s large fat tires also help absorb shocks and bumps from uneven terrain, making it a very comfortable choice for all kinds of riding.

Freesky Himalaya X5e

Price

Regarding cost, the Freesky Himalaya X5e stands out as one of the most exceptional e-bike choices available. The original cost is much higher, but it is available on Amazon for just $799. I probably won’t recommend this bike at its original cost, but the amount of value it offers at the current price is insane. This is because the X5e provides all key features, remarkable comfort, and high performance that you expect from any premium ride. It has massive fat tires, an integrated colorful LCD, front and rear hydraulic disc brakes, and a potent Bafang motor, to name a few.

Frame

The Freesky Himalaya X5e electric bike has a sturdy aluminum 6061 alloy frame that’s designed to withstand all bumps and impacts that you experience during your rides. The bike weighs 73lbs and has a maximum payload capacity of 350lbs. As for styling, it’s good… except for the clumsy external wiring!

Battery

The Freesky e-bike has a 48V 15AH Samsung cell battery that is neatly integrated into the downtube. Though the battery is integrated, it can also be removed for out-of-frame charging. During malfunctions, this design makes battery replacement simple. There is also no possibility of battery loss because you have a lock and key mechanism as well. As for charging, you need 7-8 hours to top it up with a standard 2A charger.

Display

Freesky has a backlight color LCD which shows PAS settings, headlight status, current speed, remaining battery life, mileage, and all other ride-related details. Regardless of the time of day, the display adapts to different lighting situations to guarantee optimal vision. Additionally, Freesky has a handy USB charging plug that makes it easier to charge personal electronics during outside rides.

Accessories

The Freesky comes with pedal and wheel reflectors to help you stay visible on the road, as well as a horn to alert others to your presence. However, it doesn’t feature a rear rack… and also misses fenders to protect you from splashes when riding through rainy terrain.

Tires

The Freesky boasts 26×4-inch CST fat tires with a robust knobby tread pattern. These tires aren’t just for show; they perform admirably. They not only improve grip on sand, snow, and mud, but they also contribute to a smooth ride by efficiently absorbing impacts and decreasing vibrations on uneven streets or rocky off-road routes.

Lights

The Freesky has a giant front LED light to illuminate the rider’s route during night. Compared to most other e-bikes, its 700 LUMENS headlight is stronger and can illuminate a greater distance. It also has a rear light to increase the bike’s visibility to other drivers on the road. When the rider applies the brakes, the rear light turns on… so that’s quite useful as well.

Warranty

The Freesky X5e electric bike comes with a comprehensive warranty that covers all manufacturing defects in its components for a period of 12 months. This includes protection for almost every e-bike component. For further details, please visit Freesky’s warranty policy page on their official website.

Freesky Himalaya X5e Alternatives & Competitors

If you want to consider other options, here are two main options to consider in the same price range as the Freesky 750.

Freesky Himalaya X5e vs Mokwheel Obsidian

There are some notable differences between the two. The Mokwheel Obsidian is more expensive than the Freesky and has a larger motor. The Freesky and Mokwheel both feature fat 26-inch tires… and both are equipped with almost comparable Samsung cell batteries. However, the load capacity of Mokwheel is greater than that of Freesky. On the upside, Freesky electric bike is one of the highest rated electric bikes on Amazon.

Freesky Himalaya X5e vs Mukkpet Suburban

Both the Freesky Himalaya X5e and the Mukkpet Suburban have similarly rated motors. However, the Freesky has more power… and a higher peak speed. Freesky also has a slightly higher range, compared to the 21-mile range of the Suburban. In terms of weight and load capacity, the Freesky Himalaya X5e weighs more, even though it has almost the same load capacity.

To have a better understanding of the features and capabilities of these three fat tire electric bikes, let’s examine them below.

Conclusion

Thanks to its discounted price, the Freesky X5e is an amazing fat tire e-bike that shines out in terms of value. It delivers outstanding performance and comes with a wide variety of features. The bike exhibits a strong climbing power due to its 750W Bafang motor, which has 85Nm of torque. The fat tires ensure a stellar riding experience on not just city roads, but also beaches, trails, and hills.

The bike also stands out due to its remarkable acceleration, which surpasses many other bikes in its price bracket, and its useful cruise control system. Furthermore, it also doesn’t let you down, when it comes to safety. With its dual lights, horn, and reliable brakes, safety is definitely prioritized here. On the downside, the Freesky X5e misses many accessories like rear rack… and doesn’t even come with fenders. Its weight is also on the heavier side, which may limit its portability. But if you can make your peace with these, the bike is worth buying at its discounted tag of $799.
