Performance Review

The Jasion Roamer features a brushless rear hub motor, which is rated at 750W nominal and peaks at 1200W, delivering 60 Nm of torque. Powering this motor is a 48V 11Ah (528Wh) lithium battery from Samsung. The Roamer provides flexibility with three riding modes: manual, throttle, and pedal assist. The throttle mode allows for effortless riding with the push of a thumb throttle, while the pedal assist mode offers five levels of assistance, enabling riders to adjust the motor’s output based on their preferred speed and the specific riding conditions… so as to adapt to various terrains and environments.

Acceleration

The Jasion Roamer comes with a 750W nominal motor, which peaks at 1200W and delivers 60 Nm of torque. During my test, I noticed that the acceleration in throttle mode was relatively mild, providing a steady start rather than a sudden surge of speed. However, the bike’s performance truly stood out when I switched to pedal assist mode (PAS), especially at PAS 5. In this mode, the bike felt significantly more zippy and responsive, making it highly suitable in urban settings.

Top Speed

The Jasion Roamer is a Class 3 ebike, so has a top speed of 28mph… which is in accordance with its 750W motor, making it suitable for those who need a bit of speed in their daily commutes. However, it’s important to note that as the battery depletes, the bike’s speed gradually decreases. Towards the end of the battery cycle, the speed can drop significantly, which is a common occurrence across most e-bikes. If you’re looking for more speed, you can check out the Movcan V60 that I recently tested.

Suspension

The Jasion Roamer comes with a front mechanical spring fork that offers 80mm of travel, providing adequate suspension for city riding. The fork is adjustable and lockable, allowing riders to customize the suspension to suit different riding conditions. In my tests, the suspension effectively absorbed bumps and potholes, significantly enhancing the comfort of my urban rides. The saddle also contributed to the overall comfort, providing sufficient cushioning, especially during longer rides.

Hill Climb

The Jasion Roamer can effortlessly handle mild inclines, thanks to its 60 Nm torque output. During my test rides on sloped roads, I found the bike’s performance to be reasonably capable for the price. Although I was initially concerned about needing to exert extra pedaling effort, the 750W motor provided sufficient power to power me though various kinds of roads without much struggle. Yes, it is not meant for steep gradients… but if you want something for flat urban roads, it can be a great option. Otherwise, you can check out the powerful Ouxi V8.

Ride Quality

The Roamer delivered a smooth ride, with nimble and agile steering that made maneuvering through traffic and tight spaces relatively easy. While the cadence sensor offered a decent riding experience, there were moments when I felt the power delivery could be more responsive. Additionally, the skinny tires caused some shakiness during high-speed rides, which might be uncomfortable for some users. On the flip side, these tires allowed the bike to roll over obstacles effortlessly, contributing to a more comfortable experience. The front suspension fork also did a commendable job of absorbing shocks and impacts, and the saddle was also quite plush. And since the bike is available in step-thru version as well, it can offer convenient mounting for seniors, women, and people with limited mobility.

Transmission

The Jasion Roamer is equipped with a Shimano Tourney 7-speed system. During testing, gear changes were smooth and reliable. While 7-speed transmissions can sometimes lead to ghost pedaling at higher speeds, it can be sufficient for urban riders who don’t ride at the top 28mph speed. For commuting and casual rides, the gearing provides enough versatility… but for riders who frequently tackle steep hills or prioritize high-speed cycling may find the limitations of the 7-speed setup more noticeable.

Braking

The Roamer is equipped with dual mechanical disc brakes… and I found their performance to be impressive. The brakes provided quick and responsive stopping power, even at high speeds and on wet roads. However, despite the satisfactory performance of the mechanical brakes, I always prefer hydraulic brakes… especially on Class 3 ebikes, which have a top speed of 28mph.

Range

During my testing, I covered approximately 23 miles on city paved roads with minimal inclines and average wind conditions. I primarily used PAS 5 and throttle mode, which may have reduced the range, but I believe opting for lower PAS levels could have extended the distance. Considering the 528Wh battery, I found the range to be quite satisfactory. Also, keep in mind that the actual range may vary depending on factors like terrain, rider weight, and weather conditions. Still, I would not recommend this bike for people who want something for longer trips. For that, I would recommend the Ridstar Q20 that I recently tested.

Jasion Roamer Features

Styling

The Jasion Roamer features a sleek and stylish design with a modern and minimalist aesthetic, much like the Actbest Core that I recently reviewed. The internal wiring minimizes clutter on the frame, enhancing both the bike’s appearance and durability. One of the standout aspects of this design is the semi-integrated battery, which is housed within the downtube but remains easily removable. This design contributes a lot to the bike’s sleek look. Additionally, the Roamer is available with a step-thru frame, making it a more accessible option for women and elderly riders, ensuring easier mounting and dismounting. This thoughtful design caters to a broader range of riders, combining practicality with aesthetics.

Frame

In terms of portability, the Jasion Roamer leans towards the heavier side. Weighing 65 lbs, it can be somewhat challenging to carry around. However, the bike offers a rated load capacity of 400 lbs, which is notably higher than many other commuter e-bikes on the market. This higher load capacity means that even heavier riders can use the bike confidently, without concerns about placing excessive strain on the frame or components. The Roamer also has a  robust rear rack that you can use to haul groceries.

LCD

The Jasion Roamer features a large, color LED display that offers user-friendly operation and clear presentation of essential metrics. This display provides real-time information including speed, battery level, distance traveled, and assist mode, ensuring that riders have all the data needed for a smooth and informed ride.

Battery

The Jasion Roamer is equipped with a 48V 11Ah (528Wh) battery with Samsung cells. The battery has a semi-integrated design, that integrates the battery within the bike’s frame, offering a sleek appearance while remaining easily removable for convenient charging. Moreover, the battery case includes a lockable mechanism, which enhances security and provides peace of mind against theft. The battery has a BMS for better protection… and can be charged within 5 hours from a standard 2A charger.

Lights

The Roamer is equipped with an LED headlight at the front, which offers strong illumination to ensure visibility during low-light conditions. For added safety, the Roamer includes a rear brake light to signal braking to other road users… as well as turn indicators for safer maneuverability. The bike also features multiple reflectors placed on both the front and rear of the bike, as well as on the wheels, to enhance visibility from all angles.

Accessories

The Roamer includes several accessories designed to enhance rider convenience and functionality. It features a robust rear rack, ideal for carrying groceries or other items, which adds versatility to the bike. Full-length plastic fenders help keep both the rider and the bike clean and dry, making them particularly useful in wet conditions. Additionally, the bike is equipped with an electric horn for alerting others, a side kickstand for stable parking, and multiple reflectors to improve visibility during nighttime rides.

Tires

The Jasion Roamer is equipped with 26″ x 1.95″ tires, designed with a street tread pattern that enhances grip on both wet and dry surfaces. During testing, these tires proved to be exceptionally sturdy and durable, making them well-suited for urban commuting. They perform reliably across various road conditions and weather scenarios, providing a stable and secure ride on city streets.

Warranty

The Jasion Roamer is backed by a comprehensive 1-year warranty that covers key components such as the frame, battery, motor, controller, and LCD display, providing full peace of mind for the rider. For further details and clarification on warranty terms, it is advisable to visit Jasion’s official website.

Jasion Roamer Alternatives & Competitors

If you’re looking for more choices, here are two other commuter ebikes that you can consider.

Jasion Roamer vs Engwe P26

When comparing the Jasion Roamer and the Engwe P26, the Roamer stands out with its 750W motor, delivering more power compared to the P26’s 500W motor. The P26, however, has a 652Wh battery, providing a longer range of 29 miles, compared to the Roamer’s 528Wh battery and 23-mile range. In terms of weight, the P26 is significantly lighter at 53.3 lbs, making it easier to handle than the Roamer’s 65 lbs. But again, the Roamer’s load capacity of 400 lbs far surpasses the P26’s 220 lbs, making it more suitable for heavier riders or carrying cargo. Both bikes feature front suspension for added comfort, but the Roamer offers better value at $619..

Jasion Roamer vs Mokwheel Mesa Lite 2.0

When comparing the Jasion Roamer to the Mokwheel Mesa Lite 2.0, the Roamer once again stands out with its 750W motor, providing more power than the Mesa Lite’s 350W motor. In terms of battery, both bikes have similarly sized batteries… but the Mesa Lite offers a better range due to its smaller motor. In terms of weight, the Roamer is heavier at 65 lbs, compared to the Mesa Lite’s 57 lbs, but compensates with a superior load capacity of 400 lbs, which outperforms the Mesa Lite’s 350 lbs. Both bikes include front suspension for added comfort, but the Roamer’s $619 price is significantly more affordable than the Mesa Lite’s higher cost… making it a better budget-friendly option.

Conclusion

After my testing of the Jasion Roamer, it’s clear that while it has some limitations, it remains a solid choice for an e-bike meant for urban commuting – thanks to its Shimano gears, front suspension, disc brakes, color display and efficient powertrain. The only significant drawback that I found is the relatively limited range due to the smaller 528Wh battery… and a relatively higher weight (which, tbh, is not that much unless you have to take it upstairs to your residence). Still, despite these shortcomings, the Roamer is one of the best ebikes that you can get for urban riding and daily commutes on budget.

The bike stands out for its balanced performance, super, super-stylish design, and comfortable ride. The sleek frame, complemented by the semi-integrated battery and glossy finish, provides a modern look… while practical features such as the rear rack and full-length fenders enhance its functionality. Though not ideal for challenging terrains or long-distance rides, the Roamer is a reliable option for those seeking a dependable, budget-friendly e-bike for urban travel.
