Performance Review

The Addmotor Grandtan M-340 fat tire electric trike comes equipped with a robust 750W Bafang motor in the front wheel, powered by a substantial 48-volt Samsung battery. The trike can deliver a peak power output of up to 1000 watts… and offers three distinct riding modes: a manpower mode, motor-assisted pedaling, or full electric throttle control. Within pedal assistance, you can choose from seven different levels to fine-tune the amount of additional power you want while pedaling, enhancing the overall ease and efficiency of your ride.

The Bafang hub motor is impressively potent and delivers an impressive 80 Newton meters of torque. However, since this motor is situated in the front wheel, occasional wheel slippage may occur, especially when tackling steep inclines on loose terrain. It’s important to note that this phenomenon is common in electric bikes and trikes using a front hub motor. During our testing, we did observe this happening, but the slippage was not overly pronounced.

Acceleration

While conducting my test ride of the Addmotor Grandtan M-340 electric trike on smooth, well-maintained roads, it displayed remarkable acceleration, courtesy of its powerful 750W Bafang motor capable of peaking at 1000W output. I could hit a top speed of 19 mph in just about 13 seconds. After reaching this speed, the trike maintained a steady pace for the entire ride.

Top Speed

The Addmotor Grandtan M-340 has Class 2 compliance, enabling it to achieve a maximum speed of approximately 20mph (well, 19mph actually). This speed is well-suited for a variety of riding situations. However, it’s worth noting that during sharp turns at higher speeds, the electric trike may exhibit a slight lean to one side – a characteristic commonly observed in all three-wheelers.

Hill Climb

During my test ride of the Addmotor Grandtan M-340 on hilly terrain, I was genuinely amazed. It effortlessly conquered the majority of hills I encountered, all thanks to the impressive 80 Nm of torque produced by the 750W motor. However, when the incline became steeper, typically around 20 degrees, I did find it necessary to pedal a bit to provide some assistance to the trike. The RAEV Bullet GT still retains the title of the ultimate hill conqueror. I mean I still have seen nothing like it.

Ride Quality

The Addmotor Grandtan M-340 electric trike places a premium on your riding comfort above all else. It features a well-padded seat with a supportive backrest, ensuring exceptional comfort during your journeys. You not only have the flexibility to adjust the seat height and customize the handlebar position to achieve the most ergonomic riding posture, but you also can height-adjust the backrest, depending on your preference.

Additionally, the M-340 is equipped with three 4-inch wide fat tires along with a front suspension that effectively smooths out rough roads. The trike is fairly agile with a short turning radius, but it’s worth noting that during sharp turns or corners at high speeds, you may observe some leaning behavior. Again, as I mentioned earlier, this is common for all trikes and shouldn’t come as a surprise if you have experience riding one.

Range

The Addmotor Grandtan M-340 comes equipped with a 48V 20Ah Samsung battery, promising a maximum claimed range of 85 miles when utilizing the lowest pedal assist setting. It’s important to note that this range can vary based on total weight, level of incline, wind conditions, and other variables. During my testing on flat terrain and without any cargo, I was able to cover a distance of approximately 25.5 miles while using the highest level of pedal-assist.

If you’re in search of an electric vehicle with an exceptionally extensive range, you might want to consider the Aniioki A8 Pro Max, which boasts an enormous 48V 60Ah battery (equivalent to 2,880Wh)… or you can also explore the Bandit X-Trail Pro as another excellent option!

Braking

The Grandtan M-340 is equipped with Tektro mechanical disc brakes, with 3 x 180 mm rotors on both the front and rear wheels. Despite having a total of three discs, the braking performance leaves something to be desired, mainly because of the trike’s massive 118 lbs weight. Hydraulic brakes could have been a superior option. Nonetheless, the positive aspect is that the brakes feature motor inhibitor levers that promptly disengage the motor power when brakes are activated.

Suspension

The Grandtan M-340 comes equipped with an 80mm travel oil spring front suspension fork. It is also equipped with three 4-inch wide fat tires to absorb various surface imperfections, guaranteeing a comfortable ride on both pavement and light trails. But it’s worth noting that trikes can exhibit some instability on steep hills, so it’s advisable to use them on city roads. If you’re seeking a trike with suspension both in the front and rear, Addmotor also exclusively offers the impressive full suspension SOLETRI M-366X trike.

Transmission

The Addmotor Grandtan M-340 is equipped with a Shimano Tourney 7-speed chain transmission, delivering seamless gear shifts. In its lowest gear, the trike demonstrates ample power for conquering steep inclines. However, being a trike, the derailleur is positioned beneath the frame and hangs relatively close to the ground, unlike e-bikes. This necessitates extra caution when riding on trails, as the derailleur may be more vulnerable to impacts.

Notably, the battery is covered for 18 months, and the frame enjoys 24 months of coverage. For a comprehensive understanding of the warranty’s terms and conditions, you can refer to Addmotor’s official website, where they have provided detailed information.

Conclusion

After my evaluation of the Addmotor Grandtan M-340 fat tire electric trike, I must say that I am thoroughly impressed. This remarkable three-wheeler excels in terms of its exceptional value for money. It not only delivers outstanding performance but also offers a diverse range of features that position it as a top contender within its category. Its standout features include the large Samsung battery, the convenient wooden footrest, and the rear waterproof storage bag.

On the flip side, it would have been ideal if Addmotor had opted for hydraulic brakes and cut down some of the weight. However, despite these minor drawbacks, the Grandtan M-340 remains a standout option in the electric trike market. The best thing is, the trike offers a comprehensive package comprising fenders, lights, and numerous convenient features. With that, I conclude this review.
