Performance

The powertrain comprises a 750W brushless rear hub motor (1500W peak), and here is where the bike reveals the greatest part of its character. The acceleration is punchy, particularly with throttle mode. The motor can pull confidently on flat urban roads and effortlessly achieves 31 mph top speed, depending on the weight of the rider and the terrain.

In testing, the bike performed well in steep hills. It is not a hill-climbing monster, but the motor has sufficient torque (80 Nm) to cope with the usual over passes in the city and slopes up to 30 degrees. The assistance is quick and responsive.

The bike comes in five speed levels, ranging from 6 mph to 31 mph, which provides flexibility to the rider in case they want to cruise at lower speeds or unlock full performance. The speed range of each level can be customized via the app.

Then, there is a predictable and comfortable drive of the 7-speed system through the different speeds. It is a basic system, yet it can be used in commuting and recreational riding.

Range

The Qlaway is fitted with a 48V 18Ah removable lithium-ion battery (864Wh). During mixed riding, the bike had an approximate range of 40 miles per charge, with extended riding conditions allowing up to 70 miles, depending on assist level and terrain. Riding on pure throttle gives that distance a significant decrease and more so at a higher speed.

A convenient feature is the removable battery design that allows easy charging for those who live in apartments. The charge time using the charger included is approximately 6 hours. The battery fits into the frame with a lock and is fairly stable in case of bumps.

Nevertheless, similar to the majority of affordable e-bikes, battery durability in the long term is largely dependent on the quality of charging and storage. The range is sufficient for commuting, campus riding, and weekend cruising. Riders who travel long distances might wish to schedule charging.

Capability

The bike features 20-inch fat all-terrain tires that provide good grip on sand, gravel and rough urban roads.

  • I tested the bike across:
  • Broken city pavement
  • Light dirt paths
  • Speed bumps and curbs

The large size tires ensure that minor bumps are smoothed and that one feels confident on uneven surfaces. Off the road, the bike is more comfortable than an average commuter e-bike. The full suspension system with front and rear shock absorbers can absorb the middle-range impacts fairly well.

Safety

The bike has front and rear disc brakes, which give it reasonable stopping power when riding in everyday use. In normal conditions, the braking was predictable and controllable.

To be seen, the bike has an inbuilt LED headlight and integrated turn signals to complete the minimum night riding safety measures. The lighting is practical. The fat tires also enhance safety because they ensure better contact with the ground, increasing stability on gravel and uneven pavement.

Ride Quality

I liked the ride quality of the bike. The fat tires do a good job absorbing road chatter and small potholes. In crowded city streets, the bike is more comfortable than those with narrow tires. The saddle is fairly padded and suitable for medium rides. In longer test rides, there was no discomfort.

The placement of the handlebars encourages a fairly upright riding posture, which is better in traffic and lessens strain on the wrists. The bike is stable during cruising, even at high speeds.

Design

The bike has a durable frame and weighs approximately 88 lbs. The frame geometry is minimal. Mounting and dismounting is easy for most riders between 5.5 ft and 6.5 ft tall.

The large smart LCD display is centrally located, so riders can easily see speed, battery level, distance, and speed level. It is easy to read the screen even during daylight and simple to navigate while riding.

Cable routing remains largely external as is the case at this price level. It is not as tidy as high-grade inside routing, but is easier to service. Then, to top it all, you have a rear seat as well!

Price

Pricing is one of the strongest selling points of the Qlaway BK20 fat tire ebike. Positioned firmly in the affordable e-bike segment while offering headline features like a 1500W peak motor, 31 mph top speed, and 48V 18Ah battery, it competes strongly within its category.

Then, you have 7-speed drive, LCD display, disc brakes, LED headlights with turn signals, cruise control, and customizable speed levels that enhance practicality and safety for everyday riders.
